Lifestyle Medicine
What is Lifestyle Medicine?
Lifestyle medicine seeks to work along side ‘conventional’ medicine to help people live the healthiest lives that they can. It can look at helping to treat health conditions which already exist, or look at helping to prevent health problems from developing in the first place.
It is also closely linked with social prescribing which we now have available at Hanham Health (see our social prescribing page).
We know that many health conditions are caused by, or exacerbated by, the lifestyles which we lead.
Lifestyle medicine looks at your lifestyle factors to see where adjustments can be made. This might be looking at diet, smoking/alcohol consumption, physical activity, social interaction, sleep or stress relief.
Most commonly it will be looking at all of these factors together in a holistic way. Lifestyle medicine is not about weird diets that let you eat nothing but cabbage. Nor is it about getting you into lycra and making you go the gym. It is about making small simple adjustments to your day to day life which are sustainable over the long term, and which add up to a greater over all sense of well being and health.
Dr Lintern has a particular interest in lifestyle medicine and would be happy to see any patient who wish to explore this subject further.
